Food rescue is a vital component of our organization. We network with other food banks and all sectors of the food industry (grocery stores, big-box stores, restaurants, bakeries, etc.) to rescue food that would otherwise be wasted. Excess, damaged, or short-dated food can be rescued and distributed to our partners.
Our produce stand provides the community with locally grown, fresh food and is stocked about 6 days a week in the Summer and Fall. We acquire the food on the stand from local markets and auction, as well as local farmers and gardeners who donate to us. We have suggested donation amounts posted and all proceeds help us to offset operational costs.

We partner with food agencies and organizations that feed and serve their communities and share our vision to eradicate food insecurity. Our partners include food pantries, recovery homes, homeless shelters, food assistance programs, schools, churches, and backpack programs. Each week, our partners can shop by appointment, collecting food and essentials that the individuals and families they serve can use. Our partners pay no membership fees, and there are no minimum requirements for receiving our resources. On average, we distribute 400,000 pounds of food each month to our partners and the community.
Our recycling program provides the community with a way to recycle cardboard, alumninum, and scrap metal 24/7. We have large receptacles located at our distribution center on Emeline St. on the southwest corner. All donations of recycling materials given to us are sold to support our operating expenses.
Much of our food is donated, but increasingly more often we need to purchase food at wholesale costs to meet specific demands from our partners. We allow our partners, as well as the public, to purchase this food at discounted rates. The public is able to visit us on "SaTERRdays" to acquire these deals.
The Milford Food Bank Resource Store, located in Ligonier, Indiana, is open on the third Wednesday of each month and stocked by Milford Food Bank with personal care and non-food, essential items like personal care products, daily essentials, household items, and more. It is available to anyone from anywhere, and all items are free.
