Volunteer Spotlight: Angie Higginbotham

We run on volunteer power and wholeheartedly believe we have the best volunteers at Milford Food Bank. So, each month, we feature one of our loyal volunteer staff members. Today, we are featuring Angie Higginbotham from Syracuse, Indiana.
As the daughter of Milford Food Bank's founder, Bill Troup, Angie has been a volunteer since the very beginning (2010). In those early days, her mom, Anne, would call all of the food pantries, and they needed a way to keep track of phone numbers, contacts, and distribution needs. Angie took on the job of keeping the spreadsheet updated to track who was coming and how many pallets needed to be prepared. Whenever she could, especially during the summer, she helped prepare pallets and assist with checking in pantries on distribution days. Watching Milford Food Bank grow has been an incredible experience for Angie. When her dad had his stroke years ago, the family worried about what would happen next for the food bank. But looking back, she believes God already had a plan. He prepared the way and brought the right people forward to step in, carry on the mission, and continue the outreach her dad had envisioned, now expanded far beyond anything he could have imagined. One of the things that has surprised Angie the most throughout the years is just how much food is thrown away or disposed of while it is still good to eat. She is also continually amazed by the unusual things that come into the food bank and even more amazed that we can almost always find a home for these items.
These days, Angie serves on the fundraising committee, helping others find ways to support the food bank. She believes so many people genuinely want to give back; sometimes, they just need an invitation. Gathering items for the auctions for fundraisers like Night of Faith, the golf outing, and Gobble Up Hunger feels a little like working on a big puzzle, finding exactly the right person to fill each piece.
Even after all these years, she is amazed by how the food bank has grown into a true community. Volunteers continue to give freely of their time and talents, all with the simple goal of making their corner of the world a better place. Whether they are packing food, making phone calls, cleaning, driving, or simply spending time with the people they meet at pickup, every role matters. To Angie, every act of service reflects love and purpose and ultimately brings glory to God.
We are so grateful to Angie for her commitment to serving Milford Food Bank and continuing to use her talents and skills to give back to our community. To nominate a volunteer, email Angie Deak at angie@milfordfoodbank.org
