Volunteer Spotlight: Cris Marsh

We run on volunteer power and wholeheartedly believe we have the best volunteers at Milford Food Bank. So, each month, we like to feature one of our loyal volunteer staff members.

Meet Cris Marsh from North Webster, Indiana!

Since Cris' parents, Bill and Anne Troup, started Milford Food Bank in 2010, volunteering has been a family affair. The entire family has been involved in some capacity over the years. After retiring about two years ago and having more free time, Cris began volunteering once a week on the food bank's packaging team.

Cris volunteers to help continue her parents’ legacy and to serve people in her community. After a day of volunteering, she enjoys visiting her dad at the nursing home and sharing stories about the food they packaged that day, the people she worked alongside, and everything happening at the food bank. These conversations help Bill feel connected to their community.

One of the most surprising things Cris has learned while volunteering is the incredible number of people who stop at the produce stand or take advantage of the free items placed outside. Seeing how many people utilize these resources has made the need for help in the community undeniable. Cris' favorite part of volunteering is visiting with the other volunteers. Her second favorite activity is sorting through the Amazon boxes, where she never knows what treasures she might find.

Looking back at what the food bank was on its very first day compared to what it has become today has been amazing to her. Cris says, "God is so good, and if we are obedient to what He asks of us, we can achieve things way beyond what we ever thought possible." What motivates her to keep coming back is an obedience to what God is asking her to do. She continues to show up, give her time, and help carry on her parents’ legacy through Milford Food Bank.

We are so grateful to Cris for her commitment to serving Milford Food Bank and continuing to use her talents and skills to give back to her community. To nominate a volunteer, email Angie Deak at angie@milfordfoodbank.org
